Childhood:
Dimitri Mendeleyez is believed to be the youngest of 11-17 brothers and sisters. His family was wealthy as the father had a well payed job, unfortunately though he became blind and Dimitri's mother was forced to work. His mother wanted to give Dimitri a good education so they travelled from Siberia to Moscow hoping to be accepted. He wasn't. They moved to St. Petersburg as he was accepted and he stayed there until graduation. Afterwards he developed tuberculosis which caused him to travel to the Crimean Peninsula. There he took interest science and became a master in science.
Dimitri and how his table came to be:
Mendeleyez (five years after Newlands released his Octave theory) gathered all the information from other before him and came up with the periodic table. full of many elements but some were still to be created and found. As John Newlands' he also ordered the elements by atomic mass that are simular to each other.
Row Group I Group II Group III Group IV Group V Group VI Group VII Group VIII
1 H
2 Li Be B C N O F
3 Na Mg Al Si P S Cl
4 K Ca ? Ti V Cr Mn Fe, Co, Ni, Cu
Mendeleyez thought positively about gaps as they were only gaps as the elements had not been discovered yet. He could work out what the properties of the missing element's properties and their atomic mass. This proved when the missing element was found and the calculations the almost exact. Gallium was placed underneath AL (aluminium). The table was used for two other elements and they were correct.
